500 m is still insanely tall, just 100 m short of being classified as megatall. There are only 10 skyscrapers over 500 m tall in the world, 3 of them in China. As China has about 1500 skyscrapers overall (150 m+), it's fair to say that over 99.8% of new skyscrapers in China will be completely unaffected by this regulation.

They can dig a 600-meter hole, then make a building with 0 meter above ground. A -600m building to be precise.
6.My peepee is very small, but
Lel 500 metres is is still >100m taller than the UK's tallest building. So I wouldn't really say that they are banning skyscrapers.

It’s about time, isn’t it? Quality is better than quantity. Safety and environment should be prioritized over prestige.

It is really great to see all that repugnant "copycat architecture" finally coming to an end. It was a very rediculous trend.

“What do you mean people wont actually pay 3 million a year to live in our world record skyscraper?”
“They’re only really using it as real estate investment?”

I hope they add more buildings that reflect their culture.
Wow, I didn’t knew this would get that much attention. What I meant with “buildings that reflect culture” is More historical buildings. They have great history, yet I don’t see it in their architecture...

The real reason (in one sentence): Many of these mega buildings are basically empty and generally poorly built.

This sounds really like a good thing. The tallest buildings are so inefficient. And banning clone buildings or require buildings to have an an architect is great - better if they can tear down the clones already built because they look so tacky.

I remember several years ago, when I was living in Shenzhen, China, there was a tall building being built near our neighborhood, and due to it's deep foundations, some of the apartments in the neighborhood had cracks in them and tilted. The building's name is Hanking Center Tower

They banned it because they were building a lot of useless tall skyscrapers. It eats up electricity too

At first I thought was really extreme of China, until I watched this video, which is clickbait-y in partial. Now I realize that china is making much better decisions and is improving it's reputation and residents' quality of life

I like the model of Guangzhou city, We have enough high-quality offices (for now) and landmarks for tourism attraction yet without overbuilding too many.
