据悉，12月21日当天，英国学者剑桥大学高级研究员马丁·雅克连发8推，批评西方国家的疫情应对。同时，雅克还称赞了包括中国在内的等东亚国家在抗疫方面的表现。在雅克看来，西方世界的情况正在恶化，丝毫没有好转的迹象。在应对疫情方面西方失败了。
对此，雅克发推对西方世界应对疫情的反应进行了反思。他写道：“西方世界什么时候才能意识到一个事实，这次新冠疫情，是西方政府、社会、文化遭遇的一场历史性的危机?西方的表现证明，没有疫苗，他们对病毒束手无策。不得不承认，他们已被病毒打败，并要学着适应现实。西方正在输掉这场战役。”

雅克：“西方社会在专注于优先事项、抗击疫情这件事上节节败退，他们没能进行战略性思考，他们没能展现领导力，而(西方)民众社会纪律散漫、不尊重社会也是本质问题。”
